CAB Falkland Islands is a charitable trust registered in the Falkland Islands whose aim is to provide free confidential information, impartial advice and assistance for people living in the Falkland Islands community. We also comment on social policy and legislation that may impact on the community.

We are a small team of volunteers assisted by 2 part time administrators.

CAB Falkland Islands offer advice to all seeking help. Although our population is around 4000 people we have over 50 nationalities, with numerous home languages, living in the Falkland Islands. The service is advertised to the public as being free of charge to ensure that members of the public are not discouraged from taking advantage of the service for fear of incurring expense.

CAB Falkland Islands provides information, advice and assistance in relation to Falkland Island law. We will signpost to UK or worldwide services where possible.

Our guiding principles are:

Confidentiality, impartiality, independence, accessibility, effectiveness and accountability, client’s right to decide, empowerment and equality of opportunity.

Confidentiality - Information learned from service users will not be passed on to any third parties. However, Falklands CAB may exercise their responsibility to influence the development of social policies on matters which have been raised in the course of assisting clients. No details will be made public which might enable clients to be identified, without their express consent.

Impartiality - CAB Falkland Islands is impartial, it is open to all.

Independence- We are independent. The policies and practices of the service are decided solely by CAB. No other individual agency or individual, even if they are giving financial support or other aid to CAB will influence the decision making process of CAB Falkland Islands.

Accessibility/quality of Opportunity -We make our advice accessible to all by using a telephone and email access route, suited to local demand. CAB actively recruit a range of volunteers from the local community who are capable of gaining the confidence of the Falklands community. CAB publicise the services they offer, especially in areas and among groups where the service is apparently underused. CAB will seek to extend services to meet the needs of those for whom the service is not presently accessible.
